Our Work in the community
It is a fundamental part of the Miss Millie’s philosophy that each shop should ‘put something back’ into the neighbourhood where it is located. Over the years the managers, franchisees and staff at Miss Millie’s, through their own efforts, not money donated by customers, have raised over £70,000 for charity.
Over the years Miss Millie’s has organised and funded the Bristol and North Somerset Good Neighbour Awards, which have been judged by Avon Fire Brigade, Avon & Somerset Constabulary, Bristol City Council, St Peter’s Hospice, Kiss 101 radio and the Bristol Evening Post. The awards donated cash prizes to groups working to improve their community.
As part of its commitment to the local neighbourhood the company also organises Good Neighbour Evenings. These are ‘open door’ evenings in which local people and those with an interest in the company are invited to the shop. They get an opportunity to discuss any issues they may have, and see behind the scenes if they wish.
The Miss Millie’s shops provide freshly cooked hot meals every month (free of charge) to help homeless and disadvantaged people. The shops in Cardiff provide around 40 hot meals every month to the Huggard Centre, which is operated by Cardiff Action for the Single Homeless to provide access to comfort, companionship, help and advice for homeless people of all ages in the city. The shop in Weston provides around 80 hot meals every month to the North Somerset Young Carers Service, which supports young people aged 5-18 who have to help care for a family member.
