Two of Bristol’s fast food institutions have begun a friendly ‘feud’, poking fun at each other through their advertising and on social media.
Miss Millie’s, which opened its first store in Bristol back in 1988 and now has 14 stores nationwide, has been a fixture on the city’s late night fast food scene for almost 40 years, and this week they’ve taken a light hearted poke at another fast food-institution, Oowee diner. Off the back of Oowee’s viral advertising campaign, which saw them take over key billboard space across the city, Miss Millie’s have clapped back, with a neighbouring billboard. Situated on Cheltenham Road, just by The Arches, Oowee claimed they’ve been curing hangovers since 2016 whilst Miss Millie’s fired back saying they’ve been preventing hangovers due to their stores being open until the early hours on the weekend.
The campaign has already gained huge attention across Miss Millie’s social media accounts, with many people praising the ‘genius marketing’ and revelling in the rivalry between the two Bristol brands. The campaign was created by local creative agency Hey!What? and marketing agency Duchess Media, and is part of Miss Millie’s new, disruptive brand roll out. They unveiled their new, modern look for the brand in November last year, with an aim to honour the legacy of the company as well as appealing to a new, younger audience – something that has been extremely well received by chicken fans.
Speaking about the campaign, Miss Millie’s CEO Andy Purnell said:
“We’re massive Oowee fans, and we were so impressed with their new campaign that we thought it would be great to have a bit of fun with it, and it’s been brilliant to see so many people enjoying it with us!”
And whilst it may look like the two brands are firing shots at each other it’s all in good humour, with Oowee giving the campaign their blessing!
Miss Millie’s stores are open until 3am or 4am (depending on location) every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Ends.
